01 — The basics

What RTP means

RTP stands for Rankd Tennis Points. It is a single number that reflects your current playing level on Rankd.

Every player has one RTP value. Your RTP evolves as you play confirmed Ranked Matches, giving you a current measure of your competitive level on Rankd.

RTP is a Rankd rating. It is not an official tennis ranking and it does not replace a club, federation or league rating.

02 — Getting started

How your starting RTP is set

You do not need an official rating to join Rankd. During onboarding you answer three short questions: how often you play, the highest level of tennis you have played in the last year, and the level of opponent you feel you should be matched with.

Those answers set your starting RTP, which lands somewhere between 850 and 1250. It is a considered starting point rather than a measured level.

Your first Ranked Matches move your RTP more than later ones, so it settles close to your actual level within your first handful of confirmed results.

03 — Winning and losing

How wins and losses change your RTP

Every confirmed Ranked Match changes the RTP of both players. The winner gains points and the loser loses points.

The number of points is not fixed. It depends on how the two players' RTP values compared before the match.

Only the outcome counts, not the scoreline. A close win and a comfortable win change your RTP by the same amount.

Each player's change is calculated separately, so the winner's gain and the loser's loss are not always the same number.

04 — Your opponent matters

Why the impact differs by opponent

RTP takes both players' ratings into account, so the same win is worth more against some opponents than others.

  • Beating a player rated above you is the less expected result, so it moves your RTP more.
  • Beating a player rated below you is the expected result, so it moves your RTP less.
  • Losing to a player rated well below you costs more than losing to a stronger opponent.

05 — Confirmation

How result confirmation works

After a Ranked Match, both players enter the result independently.

  • If both entries agree, the result is confirmed and both players' RTP is updated.
  • If the entries differ, the result is not accepted automatically and has to be corrected.
  • Until a result is confirmed, it does not affect anyone's RTP.

Confirmed by players, not verified by Rankd

Rankd does not referee matches or independently verify what happened on court. A result counts because both players confirmed it.

Casual Hits

A Casual Hit does not affect your RTP.

Not every tennis session needs to count. A Casual Hit is an informal game:

  • No result is entered
  • Nothing is confirmed
  • Your RTP does not change

You can play as many Casual Hits as you like without affecting your ranking. Only a Ranked Match moves your RTP.
